My son has a 12 or 13 Ram 1500 Sport 5.7 Hemi and it has 1400+lbs CCC. Good enough for him and his 3 little girls, wife, camping gear and 17' ski boat. Not everyone tows a 25' TT with 750lbs of TW. Like someone else posted 75% of 1/2 ton owners probably never tow more than a utility trailer once in awhile. I've had trucks for as long as I can remember and never towed a TT until 5 years ago. Did I need a truck? According to some I just had a grocery getter since I didn't tow a TT. But my trucks were used for work, running to Home Depot to get building materials, bark for the yard, helping someone move stuff and whatever else I needed it for. While the Ram ED does have a lower CCC than it's competitors, that doesn't make it worthless. In fact my son would benefit from an ED since his wife drives the tuck to work. It would still haul their 3 little girls, camping gear and 17' ski boat just fine
Exactly. I'd rather have a 1500 ED than a full size 4-door sedan any day. The ED can be just as nice as a near-lux car, as comfortable, probably more roomy, and now gets the same mpg with the addition of the Ecodiesel. Plus it has the added versatility of a pickup bed (for the apparently despicable task of hauling groceries or stuff from Home Depot) and has a little towing capacity for a boat or utility trailer or smaller TT. What's not to like?
Not everything is useless just because it can't tow your RV!
