My Windstar minivan had a cargo rating of about 1,450 pounds, more than the Excursion diesel had in 1999. The Excursion was limited by the heavy weight of the 7.3L diesel engine. It would carry a lot more with the 5.4L V8.
The F-150 that you looked at probably did not have the max cargo payload package, or it would have more than 2,000 pounds of cargo rating.
One does have to do research before buying a truck, if you want it to haul anything inside.
