Canadian Crossing part 6
On to Whitehorse
June 26, 2015
While we were in Teslin, we had cell service and made a couple of calls, Julie’s old flip phone worked great there.
Night rain seems to be a common reoccurring event so far on our journey. Once again our rig was rained upon in what seem like buckets of water only to have in the morning not too much of the night activity left over.
A little bit of morning traffic, sky cover with clouds greeted us, it was only coffee this morning (08:00) and we wanted to make as much headway towards Whitehorse as possible. We left our overnight spot at Ten Mile creek with the shy above crying more water upon us.

The bridge over Teslin River was soon upon us, a signage of 130Km from Whitehorse
Another couple of long-range bicyclist came towards us and we waved at each other as we passed each other. White Mountain range ran near the Alaska (Alcan) Hwy1 as we motored on towards Whitehorse.
In the “Milepost”, we saw “Swan Haven,” a place to view of course swans located on the north end of Marsh Lake along the Alaska (Alcan) Hwy1.
Unfortunely it was the wrong time of the year for such viewing, nonetheless the lake was beautiful.
After hanging around a bit, we made the remaining short drive to Whitehorse, Canada.
Coming into Whitehorse I spotted a sternwheeler steamboat, that just got on my “to see” list for Whitehorse.
In the mean time, finding Walmart was in order to pick up a few things and re-fuel. Odometer reading was 110561, driven so far 3705.0 miles so far on this trip. Driving into and through downtown area was interesting views such as fighting bull moose on a roof top of a building.
Whitehorse defiantly has the small town feel to it and it was a short drive to Walmart there was a sea of RV’s were there like boats at dock on the wet asphalt. Talking to some people at Walmart they told us to see Pioneer Park in Fairbanks when we get there, they have an all up can eat Salmon Bake.
Business done at Walmart, we made our way back through the downtown area and saw “The Deli”, a stop here was in order before leaving Whitehorse.
It had been raining on and off all day, keeping everything wet; people were driving slow and thoughtful.
Reaching the SS Klondike Historical Site and pulling into the parking lot we were behind this rather unusual looking trailer.
Checking in at the visitor center the guided tours were cancelled due to the rain, but we still could see the main deck area.

I found this restored vessel to be in excellent shape and the way it was presented, in as if it was hauling freight was exceptional.
We only spent a few hours in Whitehorse and after a quick stop at visitor center to use their internet and “The Deli” to pick up some “goodies” then it was out of town we went.
Once we were a few miles away from Whitehorse traffic did died down and a light breeze kicked up.
Some road heaves started to appear, marked by either flags or orange cones
At one point, somehow I didn’t see it we hit one (road heave) that sent our coffee traveling mugs flying out of their holders and a few others thing got tossed around. Stopping to give the TC a once over, everything was all right and we continue on our way.

A few miles out of Haines Junction, one gets a magnificent view of the outlining Auriol Range Mountains as we approach Haines Junction.

Driving through Haines Junction was quiet, hardly a soul was seen. We have a designation for the night; it is a wayside at the Spruce Beetle Trailhead a few miles outside of Haines Junction. Arriving at our chosen night spot there were a couple of Class C’s already there, they soon left heading north on Alaskan Hwy1.
