Get a Genos cap, and be done with removing engine parts. If you don't want the cap use a zip lock bag, if you don't want to do that just let the oil drain down into a pan off the plastic drip pan below the filter. Yes there is residual oil drips, but not the end of the world, and it hurts nothing.
If you take that newer Cummins to have the oil changed you can bet they are not taking parts off the motor, nor are they using caps or zip lock bags to contain the oil when they remove the filter.
