Weight and MPG are probably not as important on superdutys but if they can improve it while staying competitive on price they will definitely do it.What I am surprised of os that they use the heavy 6.2L engine on the raptor when they could use a much lighter engine with turbos.

Looks like they are going all in. The weight savings they will get that will lead to better payload and MPG could very well be a game changer.

Yes, but from Ford's standpoint, every .10 of a gallon per mile saved get them that much closer to CAFE compliance.

Is CAFE even applied to this class of vehicle ?

I see a ecoboost option in the Ford Transit this year. The Transit is the new van option that looks like a sprinter. Towing cap. is only 5k, so that's a bummer. If they bring it over to the heavy duty side of the house, it will need more intestinal fortitude.

A few days back you could "build and price" but that's not working right now for some reason. It seems like I was "building" a one ton, but I've been looking at a lot of them, so maybe not. A one ton with a 5k limit seems pretty lame.

Ford could throw a 3/4 and 1-ton chassis under the current F150 and I'd be happy. Even my Prius has sheet steel body panels and at 3k lbs, netted 58mpg average for the 71 mile work day.
