So on one hand I have someone who installs truck campers daily telling me one thing and a handful of people on this forum who do not even own a SRW or current model RAM telling me the opposite.
First, I'm not a RAM fan, and don't personally care what you buy. I am bothered by you suggesting that the advice you got here by a lot of people is suspect. Nevertheless ...
Frankly, you don't know what any of us own. If you are hoping that someone who owns a RAM has exactly your model and will post on your thread titled GMC vibration, keep hoping. You should also keep in mind that there are lots of dealers installing truck campers on a daily basis wrongly. That's why you see so many people upgrading trucks if you follow the threads here for a long time.
It's actually not hard to dispute what the dealer told you. It doesn't seem like you've done any searches or are bad at it. Here's one article that specifically talks about payload for Rams.http://www.automobilemag.com/features/news/1408-2015-ram-2500-3500-hd-revised-for-higher-payload-rating/
2015 Ram thread for SRWs http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/28569396/gotomsg/28571731.cfm#28571731
The second poster has a 2015 Ram SRW. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/28555141.cfm
I could go on, but ...
Jim,
Sorry you where bothered by my post. I have always been one to not just accept, "no your wrong" without any reasoning. You are right I do not know any of you and no one really provided any background to their opinions so I was left to look towards signatures and previous posts to try to figure out their experience in order to place a weight on their comments. From what I could figure out opinions where cast from non-owners.
I thank you for the trouble you took to post links to a few threads. Some of which I did see and some I did not. I know the RAM's payload is rated right up there with the others and even higher.
There is one thing I learned from the discussions you provided links to that might lend some credence to Bill's comments. I say might because I am not sure and it's going to be more of a question because I am just now learning what some of these suspension upgrades are.
So it appears the newer RAM SRW 3500's do not have an overload spring. So what is done when it's starts to squat a little as all three brands will do once we start approaching the payload capacity or exceed it as most salesmen will do? Bill's approach on my configuration was to just add an upper stable load on the Ford and GMC, which you can't do on a RAM without overload springs....right? Are airbags and/or lower stable loads the other options? Do they cost more? Are they slightly more difficult to install? If the answer is yes, perhaps that is all he was referring to? Alerting me that he could set me up on a RAM but it would cost more...is that a true statement?
