2016 Nissan Titan 5.6 V8 w/much improved HP/Torque

Just saw the HP/torque figures in a Motor Trend magazine: 420HP, 417 lb. ft. of torque. Might have these numbers reversed, but they're very close either way. With this kind of tune, I'd be willing to bet the redline is somewhere between 6500 to 7000.

Nice improvement over the 2004-2015 5.6 V8's 317HP and 385 lb. ft. of torque!
  • What is the payload? Need close to 3000 to make those numbers actually do something.

Those are good numbers for a gas engine. I haven't kept up to date with the Nissan Titan, but aren't the GVWR numbers increased due to the Cummins 5.0 engine? If they put the lighter 5.6 gas in the same truck with higher payload, that could draw a fair number of truck buyers...

2000+ lbs payload, 400+ HP and torque, hopefully respectable fuel mileage and a reasonable price. I think there is a market for this truck... they key being a reasonable price.

Looks like the Tundra is now at the bottom of the totem pole.

Yes and No. There are people who will buy a Toyota regardless of how it looks spec wise on paper because......well it's a Toyota!

Your right... My fishing buddy is one of them.

  • Hopefully it will become a significant player in the pickup market again. I recall my first new vehicle, a 76 Chevy Silverado, 350 cubic inch. Its payload was around 700 pounds, it was not rated to pull anything, it's fuel mileage was in the low teens, and power was totally lacking. Trips to the dealer were many to correct minor and serious defects. Competition is always a good thing.

It will not be enough to save them. Some short term sales maybe but they have become irrelevant in the super competitive 1/2 ton market. Nice upgrade still

Those numbers are very competitive. Don't know where you get your info but it's competitive against the Silverado for one-

    clicky

    And here is Ford's V8-
and a 5.0-liter V8 with 385 HP and 387 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy ranges from 18 to 22 miles per gallon.

  • The 5.6 had extremely competitive performance numbers - way back when it first came out.

Looks like they are once again competitive with the output of the other engines in the class. That, plus the heavily re-worked truck they are launching, will likely put them back in the game for a while. With Fred Diaz in charge, I doubt they will let such a profitable vehicle line wither on the vine again.
