2016 Ram 2500 Integrated Brake Controller Gone Crazy

I started getting trailer brake disconnected/check brake wiring/trailer connected messages. Re-wired the trailer brake circuit. Works fine with old truck. After much frustration and research I determined the integrated brake controller was just too sensitive so I unplugged it and plugged in an aftermarket Tekonsha analog controller and everything is great. The controller and harness were less than $100 which is way better than going through the warranty with the dealer IMHO. I found a lot of people have switched over out of pure frustration! If this post saves one person than it was worth it!
  • I own the 2016 in my sig and have never had an issue with the brake controller. I've got almost 18K on my truck, towing on flat land and in the Mountains of WV, TN, VA and NC , with GCW of 28,250# and controller works great.. Earlier models with the IBC , I wasn't as impressed with, but the 16 has been great.

  • I'll never go back to an aftermarket controller.
The integrated brake controller in my RAM works way better than the Tekonsha I had earlier.

Apparently youngm357 is unable to back up his....hmmm....conclusion....wild guess...silly opinion
  • If it indeed is under warranty get it into a dealer. It's likely that there will be a computer update for that issue. And it won't cost anything.
  • I think that one should find the real problem and repair it. The connection at the trailer plug is suspect and the new cheap aftermarket controller doesn't have the ability to detect the problem.
  • Interesting conclusion to not have Chrysler fix brake system.

How many? Dodge sold 546,000 trucks last year. How many had trailer brake controller? How many "switched over?"
