FWIW, I have 1 truck, 2005 Excursion with the V10. We used it to tow a 7000 GVW TT. The weak link in that setup was the transmission (4R100). I know because my new Winnebago has the Torqshift and that transmission is a dream to drive (extra gears, tow haul downshifting).
Me thinks that the newer gassers with the latest transmissions and gearing will work wonders compared to the older units like my EX.
To me it comes down to transmission and gearing, not gas vs diesel. The power and torque generated don't amount to much if it is not efficiently transmitted.
