- Mark_and_LindaExplorerMany things come into play...how bad, how much insurance going to pay...for a total or a repair...is there a good repair shop nearby? Do you like your trailer?
- DinTulsaExplorerPics or it didn't happen.
- HannibalExplorerBack in '99, our local dealer had a stick and tin 5th wheel in for repair after it rubbed shoulders with an 18 wheeler. You could look inside the bedroom from outside. The whole front right side had to be rebuilt. Several panels, sticks of wood and a thousand screws later it was all back together and you wouldn't know it was badly damaged by looking at it. I prefer stick and tin for that reason along with no delamination. Hopefully yours turns out well either way.
- Alabama_JimExplorerIMHO, if it is bad enough that it might be total, I would hope to total it. I have a fear of major problems when repairing. The exception would be if you are handy with tools and enjoy rebuilding.
- rbpruExplorer III can honestly say that there is no way of knowing. I bought a 3 year old TT that was very lightly used. I figured it was used one season and the folks lost interest in it. I has been a great TT, and we have towed over 30,000 miles with in the three years we had it.
Over time I have noticed the some interesting things. The entire TT is heavily caulked with silicone, every seam, windows, doors, etc. The back of the TT has screws, up one side and across the top. There are screw holes where something like a back up camera was mounted.
At this point these are just interesting observations which do not seem to have had any impact on the TT. This may be the way the unit left the factory seven years ago or it may have been rolled in a tornado and repaired.
The point is, only you can judge the amount of damage and the cost to you to repair or replace.
I think most folks would rather scrap the unit and start fresh if they have a choice.
Keep us posted. - korbeExplorerFor me, it depends on how happy I am with my current rig, out of pocket costs, and what can I get to replace the existing rig.
- oops double post
- Your description in your prior post doesn't sound like a total loss. If I was you I would spend my time looking for a repair shop that comes highly recommended.
- darsben1ExplorerDepends on the damage AND the quality of the shop that repairs the damage. Without pictures I would say a total AND DO NOT KEEP THE HULK.
Because if you get a **** repair job you are sunk
