2017 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost

Looking at a new 2017 or a new 2016. The 2017 has the 10 speed and the Ecoboost has more power and torque. However, the 2017 has the start stop standard which will likely be annoying?

Any other major differences?

The max tow versus regular tow package has effectively no material differences. Either way payload will be limited.

Anyone have a new 2017 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost?

I already have turbo lag to consider when playing Frogger while attempting to cross a busy highway twice a day. This would add to my frustration.
  • Actually in the F150 the engine is off until you lift your foot off the brake pedal. There is also a time factor where the engine will start again even with your foot on the brake pedal if a certain amount of time lapses.

Can you enlighten me? I have a 2011 F250 6.7 diesel and I've driven my son's 2015 F150 4X4 3.5 and I don't have any idea what you're talking about referring to the stop start standard feature on Ford trucks.

It is a relatively new feature. Think of a gas golf cart. The engine is off until you press the gas. That is the basic premise.

Well I will disagree with that! Currently renting an Opal diesel manual here in Ireland and most annoying feature I have seen.
I don't sit at a light with the clutch depressed, so release clutch and engine "shuts off" starts when clutch is depressed, and really not ready when I have transmission in gear and releasing again! :M

  • There's learning curve with the start stop system. Just give it time.

You can switch the start stop system off, But, it turns back on every time you cycle the ignition.
  • In 2015, I had a 3.5 EcoBoost and it was a great powertrain. You had to disable the 2.7 auto start/stop each ignition cycle (as I have to do to engage the exhaust brake on my truck now (grrr)).

Has that changed with the 2017 model year and its availability in the 3.5?
  • Ford has one of the smoothest start-stop systems out there. You probably won't really notice, and if it does bother you just disable it.

If you are concerned about payload, then order one with the Max Payload option.
  • You can turn off start/stop. So far I have been happy with the 2017's and 10 speed. FYI, I do not own one but have some good seat time with them the past couple months.
