Yes, I hear what you are saying, but at the end of the day I think it is all about choosing the best tool for your job. If somebody was giving me a truck for free and I was choosing between a Ram 2500 Tradesman diesel, Ford F250 XLT gas or the OP's truck I would take the OP's F150HD Lariat. The other two will out perform the F150HD going up and down the Ike Gauntlet but that does not mean they are better for my purposes.
We are fortunate to have many fine options to choose from (including the EcoDiesel).
