My old Chevy G20 (3/4 ton) van has semi-floating axles. Now look at the diagrams above and you can imagine the loads the side gears (not shown) are taking. I get about 60,000 miles out of differential carriers before the bores are enlarged to the point of excessive noise. This type of rear should be used in automobiles only, not trucks.
I wonder if agricultural equipment has only one bearing at the outboard end, or massive bearings at each end of the axle.
How many new rear ends have you put in it without just swapping to a full floater since you're obviously loading the van down very heavy?
