2017 Honda Ridgeline- First Review

Link

I like this little truck...seems pretty capable of handling most duties that home owners need. 5,000 lbs towing isn't class leading but it's pretty reasonable for the class. 1550 ish lbs of payload is better than a lot of half ton trucks.

Thanks!

  • I'm excited to see these by the truckload from the Honda plant in Lincoln, AL just up the road from our property. A ton pride and work has gone into these trucks and if it's the quality of my Odyssey one of them will be my next daily driver.

Great job to team at Honda of Lincoln..

    What's the payload?

    About 1,550 ish...

"class leading payload" which seems accurate...the Colorado is about 1400 ish...the Taco had about 1100-1200 ish as well in CC trim.

    As to some other comments....

The Ridgeline Beats the others in its class at hauling payload...which is the first criteria for a truck (haul stuff)...sure seems like a truck to me. Can't say it's the plastic bed that doesn't make it a trucker either as the Tacoma has had that for 11-12 years.

If this isn't a "Real" truck than the Ram ProMaster isn't a "Real" full size van...both are FWD...and both have incredible payload capacities for their class.

    Thanks!

I'm glad they brought them back. However, I liked the old style better. The front of new model reminds me of a Nissan Murano.

agree, this new one looks like a CUV from the front, NOT a truck.
at least the old style looked rugged. this one looks like someone cut the back off of a CUV or minivan and made a truck bed.

and i lived in California nearly all of my 62 years and i didn't know of
ANYONE who wanted a front wheel drive truck. that statement from the Honda fanboy was ridiculous.

As I posted on another thread, very similar to the SSanyong Actyon Sportz, a Korean/Chinese Pickup Truck, that I have since found came out in 2011 Koreans have copied Japanese trends a lot, so maybe not that unusual to do the reverse.. Unibody Pickups do not exist as such outside NA. You have some tiny versions in Mexico and Brazil, that are basically very small cars with a Pickup Bed.

  • I have a 2011 Ridgeline and really like it. Will probably buy a 2017 early next year. Don't know what I would do if I bought a pickup that didn't have the storage compartment under the bed.
Have only seen photos of the 2017, but sure do like the looks of it.

Is it more like a El Cameno, or Ranchero? Only less useful?

I guess it depends on what useful means..

It should be a good match for a small trailer, more payload than many half tons.

If you mean by not being able to pull 30 ft trailers then yea, look elsewhere.

    Thanks!

We looked at one a couple years ago. It didn't have enough room in the back seat. That's the only reason I didn't buy one.

I no longer need a 'real' truck. :)
