2017 Silverado 3500 and hitch problems.

I have a 2017 Silverado cclb srw 4x4 with Curt EZr gooseneck hitch installed correctly in factory holes per both manufactures. I then used the EZr adapter for my 5th wheel rails.

Problem I have is the hitch is too far forward (toward cab of truck) I picked up a new to me toyhauler and the seller gave me the hitch which is a Reese 16k hitch and slider. I had to have the hitch in the maneuver position to avoid contact with the rear bumper/tailgate and the trailer.

I know this isn't right and need to come up with a resolution.

For reference the setup puts the center of my rear 5th wheel rail 38.5" from the tailgate. Everything I'm reading says it should be closer to 30".

What is wrong??

Thanks in advance.
  • That's a strange one. The pin box is a pretty good extension. Just for what it's worth, a lot of welders run with hitches aft of the axle to clear their welding equipment. I had a second set of bed rails in my F250 that put the pin 12" behind the axle. With our 1900 lb pin weight, aside from being able to do a full lock U-turn without cab interference, I couldn't tell the difference towing. Our F250 is a short bed. Don't know what the answer would be in your case.
  • Has a lippert 1621 pin box. And there isn't enough room to even come close to dropping the tailgate completely.
  • I wonder if the toy hauler came with an extended pin box and the previous owner put a medium or straight pin box on it to clear the tailgate with the hitch in the rearward position.
The back of the pinbox, not the front of the trailer. If 8" is all it takes to clear or hit, something is way off. All three of our 5th wheels had enough room to open the basement door and latch it open while hitched up.
  • The gooseneck to 5th adapter plate is non directional. The gooseneck pin is centered. Not offset.

The gooseneck hitch can't be installed backwards. It indexes on factory holes. I've compared the drawings to be sure and tech at Curt confirmed it's not possible to install backwards.

I have to measure my trailer. Sounds like that's the only variable. The hitch and rails are in the proper location.
