- TurnThePageExplorerWhile still being quicker too.
- TFL retested the Ram like they said they would and the fuel mileage was at a more believable 33 mpg which is still good. Having said that, the Chevy made 1 mpg better (34mpg) than the Ram and also did 1 mpg better for the towing test.

Only 100 miles. A bit of foam in the tank, or a small measurement error. No way is measuring the tank level accurate enough for that determination when you’re talking 2.5 gallons in a 33 gallon tank.
True, and I was glad to see the guys at TFLTruck question the results of 40MPG and plan to repeat the test. I do like the fact that they attempt to maintain consistency in how they drive and load the trucks and how they fill the tanks. The idea of filling until the nozzle clicks, wait 30 seconds for foam to dissipate, then fill again until another click is pretty consistent. Is it perfect?....No, but at least they're trying to eliminate variables.
I wonder how empty the tank was before the first fill up? If they had to add quite a bit and it was from underground tanks it’s possible that it expanded some when running the first test and therefore took less on the second pass. Letting the truck sit mostly full before repeating would help remove that factor. - 1320FastbackExplorer

As long as you buy a $38k truck. Turtle n Peeps wrote:

You're showing your love for them Rams!! - Ram Eco Diesel gets a EPA rating of 32mpg which is 1 less mpg than the GM 3.0 Duramax and 2mpg more than Ford 3.0 Power Stroke.
Link - Grit_dogNavigatorTrue statements and 40mpg doing 70 on the highway does not seem plausible.
BUT observed numbers aside, I believe more like 30 mpg average is realistic and supported by several years of production of that basic configuration of the Ecodiesel.
The takeaway is yes vehicles are getting better mileage, especially trucks.
I have a 2016 Silverado 5.3 6 speed. In the right conditions it appears to knock down 17mpg cruising. Same config except 8 speed 2019 Silvy I had for a while was knocking on 20 mpg in ideal conditions (70mph, flat road, cruise on)
Not a huge surprise the diesels are 30% better mileage. That’s always been the case.
But as the numbers increase 30% means more. As way less fuel is used compared to lower mileage vehicles.
