This would be my second choice for a new Dually.
I doubt that GM will ever answer your question but I would bet it is the new transmission co-developed with Ford.
The 10 speed that is going in it wasn't the one developed with Ford. That was for the 1/2 tons. 10 speed Allison
But, I think it was the tranny holding them back and they had to beef it up. Just like Ram had to beef up the Aisin to handle more power.
