I think some are just over thinking some of these things. Modern vehicles have used a coded transponder for theft deterrent for some time now. The keyed lock cylinder for ignition is just redundant and not necessary. Now a momentary switch to start is considered more complicated than a lock cylinder? What can be expensive is the communication between the vehicle and transponder. But that exists whether you have a shiny key or a handheld fob.
