I know these 10 speed transmissions are becoming more common. Of course, lots of 8 speeds out as well. I've only had a 6 speed and am definitely aware of every shift. To those of you driving these 8 and 10 speeds, do you ever find it is just always shifting to find the right gear? Are you as aware of each shift like with the older transmissions?
Have a car with an 8 speed. Of course you notice shifts. It’s not a cvt.
It is more intuitive than a lot of older vehicles knowing how many gears to downshift based on how far you push the skinny pedal. Yes you can still confuse the trans if you drive like you’re playing xbox and not a real car, but I fail to see any downsides to more gears.
If I had 1 complaint it would be that under light loads, it runs up to the highest gear possible for the speed. IE it will be chugging along at 1100rpms in 8th year at like 45 mph, which causes a little resonance or vibration based on the load stuck at that rpm.
Paddle shifters are a good workaround as they have momentary manual mode. Click it down a gear and it holds that gear for a minute and then resumes auto mode when it needs to.
