2500 HD gasser

I have a 2013 2500HD gasser long wheel base. Truck pulls great but loves the gas. Recently made a long trip and about every 200 miles was at the gas station. I only have a 30 gallon tank at that. What could I expect to average with a 3/4 ton or 1 ton diesel pulling a Jayco 30 ft. fifth wheel. Love the ride of the truck but hate the fuel consumption.

  • My 2012 6.0 gets 7-9 towing depending on how heavy I am pulling. My LBZ pulling my Fuzion gets about 9. Considering the typically lower cost of gas verse diesel it is about a wash. The diesel would pull the load easier than the gas, but I doubt you would see a considerable mileage difference. The newer diesels may do better but I doubt by much. It hurts no matter if your putting diesel or gas in the tank.
  • You may want to check. 2011+ GM HDs have a 36 gal tank. With my gasser and 4:10 axle, I get 13 mpg overall (maybe 14 hwy) not Towing.
Towing, I get between 7 and 10 depending on head winds and road conditions.
