GM never offered the 6.0L with 4.10, only the pickups. $3k sounds on the high end for 4WD differential swaps. Tow rating is 9400 pounds with over 2000 pounds of payload. I think you'll be fine with your current gearing, though. Don't be afraid to let the motor sing when you need to. And 4th gear at 2700rpm all day is fine.
