that combo is good my cousin bought a standard cab long bed version few months ago he loves it..got it cheap too as the last owners "customized" it.. he is getting about 11 with a lead foot..

With the Whipple unit you need to burn 91+ octane gasoline...and yes it definitely uses more fuel with the super charger. It has 2 slave injectors that add fuel into the intake plenum when the motor sees boost.

...Also did a Flowmaster exhaust but kept the cat's intact. Passes smog every time...no problem. Still driving the truck today for my work and off-roading, hunting/shooting truck. Definitely a Solid Uunit.

Which charger did you install? What power/torque ratings before after did you see? Any mods to the engine along with the SG?

Installed the Whipple kit with Intercooler. Not sure of the exact HP/TQ ratings as that was 11 years ago. But it ran like a scalded ape after the install. The intercooler sprung a leak (Water to Air) about 75k miles ago and I couldn't find a replacement so we made a straight pipe and installed it in place of the intercooler. Whipple has a nice kit. Looks factory.

Had a 2003, towed like a bear! Used 1qt oil/3k, was a great truck,,,,until the dealer attempted the recall for the crank position sensor at 90k (I had specifically told him not to) and broke it off in the block, necessitating pulling the engine to complete the repair.

Truck was never the same after. Oil leaks, power steering leaks, transmission cooler failed,,all in '09 & under 100k. Unrelated, but problematic with this vintage truck, all brake lines suffered from severe corrosion, when one failed and I lost half the braking (thank goodness it was days before we were to tow through the mountains) I had all the brake lines replaced and traded it in. GM did make a change to the brake lines, but I'm not sure what year.

For whatever it's worth,,,,,,,I bought another Silverado, Duramax this time,,, love it.

oh yea, had to do the brakes at 100k, I used napa parts. the problem is that all four calipers and rotors were sketchy so I replaced them all. I believe it was mostly due to the towing in the mountains on both sides of this wonderful country, ....very expensive!!!

dale, I got mine 2001, 8.1 gas, Allison 6spd, crew, 4.10 axle. this is the best truck I have ever owned! I am only towing a jayco 28'qwest I think the gvwr is around 80000. I tow with fresh water filled for her benefit truckstop toilets can be nasty even for ladies. never had a problem towing, but I have had to replace the neutral/drive selector switch twice. it only has 150000 on it bought it new.

My brother bought a mint condition 2004 chevy 8.1/A 4x4 CCSB about 3 years ago for $18k. It was a one owner truck with 55k. He towed a large 5th wheel with it and it had power to spare pulling around 13k in weight. Fuel mileage was around 4-5 towing, maybe he had a heavy foot. He still loves the truck after selling the fiver, but fuel mileage is his only complaint. He can only go about 200 miles on a topped off 26 gallon tank with the truck, no trailer.
