2500HD w 8.1/Allison Opinions
Looking at updating my current tow vehicle by a couple of years and 100000 miles. Would like valid opinions on the 8.1/Allison combination regarding towing and overall durability/longevity. Don't care...

My son has an 02 8.1 and loves it....he is an over the road trucker, and prefers diesels, but is well satisfied with the 8.1
It uses about 1/2 a quart every 1200 miles, or so, but otherwise flawlessly running at 126,000 miles. Had to do brakes last month, and that's been it.
I do think $19k is a bit high, but they are no longer available and with the low mileage is is sure to come at a premium.
Just to compare, I just bought an 2011 Sierra HD2500 4x4 with the 6.0 ext cab for $26k.....I find it hard to believe that my new truck is only worth $7k more....
I am thinking about $14-15K....I would certainly check the actual retail value and wholesale value of the truck....
I had purchased a very low mileage Lincoln town car, and paid a high premium price because it was a cream puff....it was totalled and the insurance company paid me a little over 2/3 of what I paid, as that was the book value....they do not take condition in consideration....
