You are claiming that your hitch was set up properly for you hitch head and bars. That is NOT what determines whether a hitch is set up right or not. I can tell you, just from what you have written here, that your hitch was NOT set up correctly.
I strongly suggest that you take a long hard look at this thread which is stuck at the top of the Towing forum, before you set up your new hitch. It will give you some good information on how to get the job done right and will also teach you a few things on how/why things are as they are.
Another good read that might help you out a bit is this thread, also stuck at the top of the forum. Good luck with your new hitch. :)
