a couple of reasons i have 4x4. pull a heavy boat and need 4 w d to ge up slick boat ramps once in a while.
boon dock with T H and like to shift into low 4 wd on some forest service roads and 2 tracts. not for traction, but sometimes to crepe along very slowly at idle.
nice to have here in co for snow and icy roads too
