Sounds like in really slippery condition that is good recipe for having 4 wheels skidding out of control.

All that compression in low range is nice until you break traction and can't speed up to gain back traction..Once traction is broken badly,the only option is to speed up to regain it at a higher speed...Breaking is not an option..
