Oh, forgot to touch on 4x4'ing on pavement
Some times is is NOT a good thing to have the front and rear axles tied together
My FJ40 was wonderful and the best goat of them all. Still would have it if not
for the fiancee (shoulda kept the FJ40 and dumped her...she is now the 'ex')
Put in a LS on the front diff...
First time out skiing up at Lake Tahoe and didn't beat the storm...already had
the manual hubs locked. Shifted into 4x4 and within a few miles...slide right
into a ditch and buried the Warn Electric Winch in about 3-4 feet
of icy slush
Could NOT back out, as there wasn't enough traction...the tow truck operator
chewed me out: "you city guys with your 4x4's don't know $@$%...LS on the front
axle will lock it up on this kind of weather and lose your steering"
Researched that and so true...the image in the link I posted a few comments
ago showing how all four tires takes a different radius in a turn will have
the LS push one...then both front tires into a slide
That is why running 4x4 lock in good traction conditions is so bad for your
drive train
Another where 4x4 on pavement won't do a bit of good...you can 'hear'
the tires on pavement. Snow, slush, rain, etc...
Then when you can't hear them anymore...VERY BAD...as you are now
on ice...NOTHING except for spikes/chains would help...
