Consider not just the 4x4 but the 2-speed transfer case that you don't get on a 4x2. I just did some driveway camping at a buddy's house out on some acreage, and had to back the TT up a fairly steep gravel drive. I probably didn't need 4 WD but I did need LO speed on the tfr case. 4LO walked that TT back up the gravel hill with no spinning tires and no overheated transmission!
GDE, yes every city has a few urban cowboys that run around in lifted 4x4 trucks that never see mud....that doesn't mean that everyone who has 4x4 never uses it...yes, 4x4 costs more to own and operate, but if you are buying the truck to do the job, then not having the right equipment becomes more expensive.
I can say for sure that you will never camp here withoyt 4x4:
