The excuse that it has more maintenance and is more expensive and uses more fuel is pretty weak. If you find a 2 wheel drive and it meets your needs, get it. But if, as you've noticed, the choices are limited, I would get the 4 wheel drive if it met all my other criteria. UNLESS of course you have physical limitations dealing with the height, etc.
