I've never driven an Ecoboost but the vast majority of people that have them love them. I'd have to think that they're very good at what they're made for. Part time transportation and part time hauler.
The big trucks with big displacement engines are made to be able to haul every day all day long. I doubt that the Eco would hold up to this or they'd be putting them in big trucks but like I said I'm sure they're very good for their intended purpose.
The big displacement engines are very capable part time haulers but won't get the fuel mileage when running empty. Pick the truck that meets your needs and you should be happy.
