30 amp generator?

Hello.... I am currently looking at a Briggs & Stratton Q6500 inverter generator for my camper. I want a generator that produces 30 amps for my 13500 BTU AC and some smaller appliances in trailer. I have read through websites that discuss the Briggs & Stratton Q 6500 and they seem wishy-washy about 30 amps. The generator is a new model. In your expert opinions would this be a suitable generator for my situation? Thank you very much.
  • You'll need a generator that will produce 3,600 watts on one leg. Many larger 240v/120v generators have a switch that you can flip to "consolidate" all their power as 120v. If the 240v/120v generator does not have such a switch you will likely only ever be able to use half of the generator for your single 30A 120v RV connection. A much better choice would be a 3,600 watt or larger 120v only generator or a 240v/120v generator with the switch to change the windings to 120v only.
  • I used to buy 5,000 watt generators for work until I figured out that in practical terms I was buying a 2,500 watt unit. Now I buy 3,500 when I want 3,500 which happens to be what many many travel trailers are wired for.
