30 day trip out West - Dare we without reservations?

We did a trip out west a few years ago. We had only one reservation when we left home and that was Grand Canyon south rim. That said, we did call ahead during the trip and make some reservations as things developed. Las Vegas was cool. Our kids loved the glitz and glamour.

Having a generator is good and ability to carry enough water to overnight without hookups.
