Ans so a new era begins for Euro RV buyers. Once a few of them get the taste of having the added room and functionality of trailers with slide rooms, the market will shift that way, just as it has in the USA. Which will finally put to bed this idea that you can effectively and safely tow a big 'ol trailer with a passenger sedan. You will see these buyers moving to pickup trucks, just like we in the US have, many years ago. Pickup trucks rule for this type of work.
....flame suit on.....
No flame here...sorry to disapoint.
But I think you are misreading and misunderstanding the European market and their manufacturing as well as what they do with small diesels in medium sized vehicles.
You may remember that it was Citroen in 1934, yes 1934 that gave the automotive world the first monocoque body, front wheel drive car. It was the Europeans that gave US disc brakes and radial tires.
They already have medium sized (read small for the US) truck chassis with plenty of power from small 4 and 6 cyl diesels that can pull just about anything.
They will not need to resort to the kind of behomoth trucks we have.
I agree with you they will use the mid size "trucks" they have. For instance the Navarra ( Frontier to us ) they have, comes with a 3.0L turbo diesel with over 400 ft-bs torque.
And that is my point, I suspect we'll see them using trucks like that, rather than small sedans they have been using for their tiny and lightweight TT's.
Now then, if we could just get Nissan to bring that 3.0 V6 TD here to the US market. With the six speed manual. I'd be at the dealer tomorrow if they would.
