The wheels are also different. If you have the aluminum 2500hd wheels they are not rated for the 1 ton.

I had dualies and srws. The dualie tracks like on rails. If you pick up a nail or something you can still get to someplace to change it.
I had a 3/4 inch bolt in inner drivers side dual when I went to have them balanced. If it had been srw I would have noticed it right away. So you have to check them.
Handling and traction are reasons for drw. If you tow a sizeable boat it helps a lot to get it off a slimy launch ramp but you really need four wheel drive too.
Soft or muddy campgrounds dualie makes a big difference expecially if you have four wheel drive.

I was just josh'n ya. Pointing out you can't make a SRW 3500 and at the same time contend they don't exist. ;)

Not missing wheels. Gee, I'm talking between a 03 GMC 2500 HD SRW and a 3500 SRW. No difference in the in the two except tires and spring packs in those early years. I have no idea what the the later trucks are. I don't have the bucks to get one so no research.

If he's buying a truck why not just buy what you need rather than buying substandard and trying to upgrade?

The cost difference between a 3/4ton and a 1ton SRW is negligible.

Well another on that doesn't read the whole post. Ok I'll try again. THEY DIDNT MAKE A 3500 SRW THAT YEAR. a little plainer THEY ONLY MADE A 3500 DWR THAT YEAR. I did not want a DRW.

Then it sounds like the difference between a 3/4 and 1 ton was a little more than indicated. Seems you missed a couple tires and wheels. :)

What year and make is it, if you don't mind my asking?

A single rear wheel would work. The Ram or GM would give you a little more leeway than the F350. A dually would give more stability and much more cushion for higher weights in the future. You can safely compromise and get a SRW truck in this circumstance.

As a update to my original post, max weight,is aporox 15000 ish and yes I forgot to mention crew cab.

You didn't mention cab size.

I'll assume diesel crew cab...?
The Ram 3500 SRW 4x4 crew cab is rated to tow 17,200 lbs.
The Ford F350 SRW 4x4 crew cab is rated to tow 15,700 lbs.
The GM 3500 SRW 4x4 crew cab is rated to tow 17,100 lbs.

Will the DRW be more stable... probably. Do you NEED it... doubtful. If this is your DD and you have to worry about daily parking and possibly city driving, a SRW will work.
