The OP of this thread is towing 7K or so, I DID that with a wimpy 235 HP 5.4. Got about 9 MPG doing that.
I DON'T think the OP is going to have much trouble towing 7K or so with even a 2V V10 let alone a 3V V10. I seriously doubt that changing to 4.30 is going to "improve" the mileage towing enough to even payback the $1500 that would be "invested".
Not to mention you WILL saddle the OP with a vehicle that gets LESS MPG when EMPTY (V10 is a thirsty engine to start with). If the OP is like me, the vehicle is driven EMPTY more miles than with towing. So overall driving costs in fuel WILL go UP when not towing.
