Our Silverado has 4 positions for the 4x4 selector. We leave ours in "auto" all winter then 2H in the summer. The ONLY time I select 4H or 4L is when I am actually operating in unplowed snow over 1' or a solid ice road. It has "traction control" full time, unless you turn it off.
