I don't think the engage / disengage mechanism works the same on the GM 1500's vs the 2500's. Maybe someone will chime in that understands why the 2500's don't have the auto function.
My 2500 has auto 4X4. When the road gets slick, I automatically slip it into 4wd. When the road gets better I automatically switch it back to 2wd. No different that when the cab gets cold I turn the heat up and when it gets hot I turn it down. People are getting lazy.
Yeh that's true but it also has to do with not paying attention. With auto 4 I don't have to worry about my wife engaging the 4 wheel drive on her way to work and forgetting to disengage it when she leaves for work and the roads are dry as a bone.
