I agree. I miss the auto function since I switched to 3/4 ton trucks.

I don't think the engage / disengage mechanism works the same on the GM 1500's vs the 2500's. Maybe someone will chime in that understands why the 2500's don't have the auto function.

My 2500 has auto 4X4. When the road gets slick, I automatically slip it into 4wd. When the road gets better I automatically switch it back to 2wd. No different that when the cab gets cold I turn the heat up and when it gets hot I turn it down. People are getting lazy.

Yeh that's true but it also has to do with not paying attention. With auto 4 I don't have to worry about my wife engaging the 4 wheel drive on her way to work and forgetting to disengage it when she leaves for work and the roads are dry as a bone.

Bought the wife a 2012 ram 1500 sport all loaded up ram boxes etc. , she pulls her horse trailer with it. It has auto 4x4 as well as 4x4 hi and low. I expressed to her, " although your truck has auto 4x4 and hi/lo, does not mean you can drive like a banshee!! You still must drive your truck for the road conditions ". I reminded her, that most if not all the cars/suvs/truck you/we see in the ditches along the hiways and city streets either upside down or high centered on the grader windrows are ones with 4-wheel drive and their drivers thinking, with their AWD/4WD they were invincible...driving like they had dry clear roadways!!

Remember this, for your safety and others, if you have to drive with 4wheel locked up...slow down and drive for the conditions...4wheel drive will not make your vehicle turn any better nor will it allow you stop any quicker or allow you drive likes it summer and on dry roads!!
