Did you consider the resale or trade-in value of a 2WD in your area?
I always get a kick out of resale statements like this.
So, you spend an extra $4K-$6K for 4x4 option, 99% of the time most owners NEVER use the 4x4 at all.
Take a hit in payload and mileage.
Then when it comes to trade/resale you get a mere $1K out of that investment not including the extra fuel you used.
Yeah, you SPENT MORE UP FRONT, one would surely HOPE to recoup some of that extra money.
Over 30 yrs of driving I can only count once or twice that 4x4 would have been nice to have. For me, not worth the added expense.
As far as 4x2 getting stuck, the fix is easy now days, get the electronic locking axle! Most trucks now days also include electronic traction assist.. Putting the two systems together I have a great deal of traction that I never had with a limited slip non traction assist..
Additionally for winter I typically put REAL WINTER TIRES on my trucks, makes a huge difference in winter driving.
Now it might be a bit different if I was driving logging trails or steep unmaintained roads, but 99% of the time I am on pavement (have been know to get firewood on some interesting backwoods roads but I do that at the end of summer so they are dried out).
