This pretty well sums it up.
And while proxim2020 seems to enjoy getting stuck with his 4x2, I didn't.
Once, late at night, after a long day's drive, I was chopping branches off trees to get out of a tight spot. With 4x4 I could've backed right out.
Another time, I was running late to pick up the wife, while dumping wheelbarrows of sand under the wheels to get the trailer out. With another long day of travel coming up.
Never had to call a tow truck but am definitely getting too old for this.
As for loosening the WDH bars. In both cases above the rear axle was sinking into mud. In another case the rear axle was sinking into sand. I can see adding back weight to the rear wheels on ice or another hard slippery surface, but not when you're sinking into mud or sand already.
