4WD vs 2WD
I'll be shopping for a new (or new-ish) truck shortly for pulling a medium size trailer or 5th wheel. It seems like the vast majority of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks around here are 4WD, with jut a few 2WD...

Haha, I've never been stuck anywhere. I thought the post clearly conveyed that.
Now that's a matter of definition.
My definition of getting stuck is any time I have to get out of the cab to shovel snow, add sand, dig out mud, cut branches to throw under the wheels, or whatever, I'm stuck.
Your definition seems to be whether you had to call a tow truck or not.
By your definition, I've never been stuck either with the old 4x2 as I've always managed to extract the truck by myself. But I've never enjoyed it as much as you seem to do.
Yes, I know, doing so is certainly a challenge, and "builds character", and so on, but at my age, I don't need any more challenges and my character is pretty much fixed.
Now, when I get the 4x4 "stuck", I suspect it will be "stuck" by both our definitions. (Unless, maybe, I get that winch I've been looking at. Nah, not going there.)
