I'll be shopping for a new (or new-ish) truck shortly for pulling a medium size trailer or 5th wheel. It seems like the vast majority of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks around here are 4WD, with jut a few 2WD...
Many years ago I went camping in the spring. I vividly remember having a 2wd truck with 3 wheels on dry pavement and 1 wheel on a patch of ice. I was stuck and had to push the truck. I have never owned a 2wd truck again.
On the other hand, having 4wd just gets you stuck in worse places. There are few 2wd trucks for sale around here, and it would be hard to sell one. Having 4wd gives you the best chance to get home without too much trouble, especially pulling a trailer in the boondocks.
