We don't boondock, so my preference is for rear wheel drive. It saves weight which increases the payload and helps a little with fuel mileage. By the time I put 3,100 lbs. of pin weight on the dual rear wheels of the truck, there is quite a bit of traction there (limited-slip rear end).
