Since you're asking for opinions I'll go ahead and give you mine :) Around my parts a gas 2WD truck would not have resale value worth a ****. Maybe if it was a 1/2 ton short bed, but not a long wheel base 3/4 ton. Personally, I like the higher ride height and better visibility of a 4X4. I don't use 4X4 a ton but when I need it I need it. I do use low range quite a bit. I have a steep driveway and also some campsites are steep to back into. I don't absolutely have to have 4X4 to get into them but it's nice to just put it into low range and just back in without reving the motor to the moon. If it were me I'd buy a 4X4 with a manual transfer case and a limited slip/ locking rear axle.
