4x2 is the way to go, why carry all of that weight around when you don't need it.
Please don't anyone try this hoping for success on a slick or steep boat ramp. First, because once you unload the drive axle a bit more, you'll have less traction than you did hooked to the back. Presume the ramp will be wet anyway unless there's no one else pulling boats out at the end of the day. You'll get less traction "pulling" in reverse than "pushing" going forward.
Second, because myself and everyone else that can load a boat and go will be frustrated with the guy doing this if it clogs up the boat ramp.
If it's going to be marginal and you got a 2 wheeler, or 1 wheeler, air down tires and get a bunch of people to ride in the truck bed.
