Wondering about all the talk about resale. You guys actually by a vehicle for the next owner? I buy mine for me. I don't worry about resale. When I'm done with it. It's done.
And in truth. You pay the difference up front when you buy it to begin with. So it is a wash
Yeah, I mean yes. Not as much now as I keep vehicles a long time. Back before the invention of the interwebs and Craigslist, I used to buy a "deal" and flip it every 6-12months for even money or a profit. Kept us in very nice trucks when we couldn't or didn't want to afford a new truck. Those days are gone. Partly because of the good economy now, but even in slower years, it's just not as lucrative as it used to be.
Either way, aside from like 1/2 ton work trucks which are cheap anyway, resale is hugely different between 2 and 4wd trucks most anywhere north of the mason Dixon line.
2 wheelers just don't sell for a lot. Looking at used HD trucks, anytime one appears to be "too good to be true" if it's not a scam, it's a gasser, 2 wheeler or both.
My truck for example. Still would fetch $25k plus. Make it a gasser and it's around 15. Make it a 2wd gasser and it's about 10.
OP, buy what suits you, but 2WD trucks aren't just a drug on the market N of the Mason-Dixon, in Arizona, they resale on them is also terrible in comparison to 4WD. Even in the hot southern desert here, we live only an hour and a half drive from snow country. In many cases you can get more than the difference in cost back upon resale of a 4WD compared to a 2WD after driving it for a number of years!
Well here you have it, even the desert rats like 4x4s more than 2 wheelers. Prolly the same for swamp rats, Midwest farmers and most everyone in between. Florida may be a good spot to sell a 2 wheeler. Lots of "didn't have no 4 by 4 back in the day, don't need one now" kinda folks down there.
