5.3 vs 6.2

Been looking at 6.2L Chevy Silverados to replace my 5.3L. How much better of a job would the 6.2 compared to the 5.3 do especially when it comes to towing up mountains. My 5.3 really struggles with my 25ft TT going up steep hills or mountains.

  • You will never recoup your money with the 6.2L...... just kidding. That only gets brought up when talking about a diesel option upgrade, not gas option upgrade.

I have a friend who has a 6.2L AT4. Awesome engine. Pulls his camper like a champ although I cannot say the same for the truck. It squats more than I am comfortable with, but there are ways to fix that.
  • New 8 speed 5.3 out pulls my 2016 6 speed 5.3. 2016 is considerably better than the 08 4 speed and 01 5.3 I had. Both old ones had 3.73s, 2016 is a 3.42 and the 2019 was 3.23 or whatever that ratio is.
6.2 10 speed will blow away the 2016. Based on an Escalade I rented. It was a rocket.

I put about 10k quick miles on a 2019 5.3 8 speed and it did not struggle with an 8k flatbed in the Cascades (low altitude).
  • What year is your 5.3? I've had an early one and it was ok but my 2019 with the 8 speed really pulls nice. I tow 6,000 lbs in the Arizona mountains and am pleased with the power. The 6.2 will pull better for sure but I'm happy with my 5.3
  • My 6.2l w/ 27' 5k TT was a pretty decent combo... I really enjoyed the extra power.
