Regarding Lariat vs. XLT: I tend to buy the higher trim level vehicles. We average 20k miles per year for each of my wife and myself. We spend a fair amount of time in our cars. The marginal extra cost (20%?) spent really helps us enjoy that time and keep them longer. I have had plenty of base model trim cars too with leases over the years. While they always got me around like like the more expensive version, I never wanted to keep them long. That's me, not everyone. You have to figure out what you want assuming your budget allows for the Lariat.
