5w30 Castrol oil loss

a coworker of mine had a newer GM/chev truck (can't quite remember which) with the cylinder de-activation system and it was going through 1 quart a week. It was under warranty but told that was normal by the dealership. Maybe there is a way to have that deactivation system turned off?

Sorry for the lack of info. 07 silverado LTZ , 5.3 engine 4speed. 139000 miles driven daily short trips . Oil loss is not consistent. It has happened in the past but has been fine at other times. Oil has been changed at 4200-4800 miles and have used Castrol 5w30 exclusively since 10,000 miles. It's not raced or excessive towing.

I checked the oil often on a 454 because it used a quart about every 1,000 miles. No sign of where it went. GM said it was normal. Good luck.

Without more info we can't do much for you. I once had a 1980 Chevy pick up that had a bad modulator valve that allowed oil cross contamination between the engine and transmission (sucking trans oil into the motor) so strange things can occur sometimes. If it is not straight up burning that much oil which should be noticeable it is going somewhere within other systems on the vehicle. You might start by checking fluid levels elsewhere on the vehicle.

there are a ton of reasons why it could be going through oil.

What kind Of car? What engine? How many miles on the oil change? When was the last time it was checked? Need quite a bit more info!

I'm not familiar with your engine, but does it have a PVC valve? If it does check and see if it's been sucking oil into your intake.

Is there any oil build up inside the tail pipe(s)? If vehicle has two pipes look at both. If the is oil build up in side the pipes then there's an internal oil leak somewhere. You may want to check the Cat's for an oil smell. To much oil and the cat's will plug up.
