I wouldn't trust EVIC mileage or any other manufacturers computer mileage numbers. The are notorious for being optimistic especially Ram's. My EVIC always shows 2-3 MPG greater than hand calculated numbers.
I used to think the same, but then, if you think about it, the computer probably knows EXACTLY how much gas you used, and how far you traveled. When you fill up, you may or may not top off (or the pump may or may not shut off) at the same spot.
Now, if the manufacturers "tweak" the math algorithm to show better, I guess that's a whole different thing.
On my Sierra 1500, I always checked both, but I found the computer was pretty dang close to my hand calculations. Haven't done both on my Ram yet.
When I drove my 2014 2500 Cummins home from the dealer, EVIC cleared and showed 20+MPG. Around town, Im hitting about 15. Now, in the short haul with my trailer back to the trailer dealer, I showed 10MPG.

No No No... These trucks do not have physical fuel flow meters on them. Fuel consumption numbers are strictly based on algorithms and various engine parameters. Some trucks are spot on and some are consistently off. It doesnt matter where or how I fill up my DIC ALWAYS underestimates my fuel used by 5-7% compared to pump at each fill. How and when the pump turns off is irrelevant since these algoriths have no knowledge of the fuel level in the tank. If as your saying the computer is always accurate where is that 5-7% (1-2gal) of fuel going. Last I looked I dont have a hole in my tank.
