I really don't want to change the filter box itself and only want change the pipe going from the box to the turbo that had this silencer in it. Per the patent for the silencer, it's second job was to make the air less turbulent due to the silencer itself being in the intake and due to the convoluted elbow that comes out of the fuelbox. I don't think just taking it out will have much effect do to this. I will try to hook up to the MAF sensor when I datalog to see if there is any change in the intake air CFM.
Yeah, I prefer the OEM filter box for its filtering efficiency and the trick on-demand cold air intake it has as well. As for changing the pipe. The last product I heard of was a "Cool Hose". But It's not made for our generation of truck. For the older trucks, it was only 100 bucks, far more reasonable/cheaper than the roll-your-own plastic intake tube kits I've seen on the market. I'd be interested in what you see on your datalogs.
